Tree Removals:
There are several ways of removing a tree. If the space is there and there is no danger of damaging any property, felling is probably the quickest way to remove a tree. On the other hand, if the tree is over power lines or a home or even a business, we find the safest way to remove is to piece the tree down in sections. All trees are different and each requires a different strategy to remove. If you have a tree in which you are thinking about removing give us a call. Most of our large removals are scheduled in the winter when there is less lawn damage do to frozen soil conditions, and we also offer a 10% discount after November of each year. Also, we can access most snowy areas with our 4 X 4 Bucket truck just for those occasions.
Pruning:
The pruning of trees is probably the most noticeable and important of all tree maintenance practices.
Thoughtful pruning produces a structurally sound tree, which can better withstand adverse environmental conditions. Also, properly pruned trees require less cabling, bracing, and sometimes less managing of pests to maintain good health. Appropriate pruning add to the aesthetics and prolong the useful life of trees. Pruning is done for many reasons health, appearance, safety, tree shape, effect on flowers and fruit, and thinning out. Stump Removal:
There are several ways to remove a stump. Some people drill holes and add a chemical and try to speed the decay of a stump. Others hire a backhoe or excavator and are left with a massive hole and a sizable fee for dumping the stump. What we recommend is grinding the stump approximately 6 to 8″ below the grade of the surface then just add topsoil and seed. If you do decide to have Minnechaug perform the removals, there will always be a discount for Stump Grinding.
Diagnosis & Removal:
Successful treatment of any abnormality of trees depends primarily on correct diagnosis.Treatment based on incorrect diagnosis may only make the problem worse. Some troubles occur so frequently on certain trees, and have such specific symptoms and signs, that the competent tree worker readily diagnoses them. Other troubles are so complex, un-researched, or deficient in reliable background information that even the most knowledgeable arborist cannot determine the problem. A reliable arborist will not hesitate to admit an inability to diagnose some problems and will not hesitate to recruit the aid of a specialist to help in the diagnosis, like a medical doctor might consult a specialist in certain cases. Corrective treatments of unknown value will be made only as a last resort after all attempts at an accurate diagnosis have failed. Land Clearing:
Yard Expansion is just as it sounds. Removing all trees and grinding all stumps below grade so all you need to do is add top soil and seed to regain another portion of your yard. We also offer winter specials for Yard expansion.
Cabling:
Cabling gives strength and support to otherwise dangerous or fragile tree growth conditions.
When coming across a tree with a V shaped crotch, and there is some uncertainty as to the strength of this section of the tree, rather than remove this section some would have a better piece of mind to cable it together. Lag hooks or rods should be inserted into the branches at least 4″ in diameter and to a depth of two-thirds of the diameter of the limb. The exact size selected is governed by the amount of stress and size of the branches. Holes about 1/16 inch smaller than the hooks are bored at the proper anchorage points, and the hooks are screwed in just far enough to allow the cable to be slipped over the open ends. After the lag hooks are in place, the limbs are pulled together sufficiently so there isn’t any slack in the cable after it is hooked on, but they are not pulled tight. A thimble is inserted over the hook and cable is then passed through and spliced to form a permanent union between the two anchors. All spliced areas should be covered with a metal preservative. Cabling systems should be checked every 5-10 years.

When to Plant
Ideally, trees are planted during the dormant season – in the fall after leaf drop or in early spring before budbreak. Weather conditions are cool and allow plants to establish roots in the new location before spring rains and summer heat stimulate new top growth. Healthy balled and burlapped or container trees, however, can be planted throughout the growing season if given appropriate care. In tropical and subtropical climates where trees grow year round, any time is a good time to plant a tree, provided that sufficient water is available
